Assessment - Game

I orignally thought about making a role play, but i have changed my mind and have decided to do a game instead. My game that i have chosen to do is Pong. Yes bong seems to be easy and for people who have two lessons remaining - i have two weeks about 5 lessons remaining. I'm trying to make it a little harder but possible to do as well.
Hopefully I'll be finished the last lesson next week :D

Yesterday?!

Yesterday, Lani and I offically completed our assignment. We didnt have any major problems throughout the assignment process, apart from not being able to add videos from google videos etc. We were only allowed to post Youtube videos and the videos we did have werent from youtube. So, Lani and I made our own videos from picture of the things we spoke out. There is two and they are on the main page. They have music included also.
We have made it easy to get to our presentation. We have added it to our blog and to get to it you just click on the screen and it'll go straight to our main page. From there you click on whatever you want to read first and there is an easy links to all the pages.

Researching Online Multimedia Tools

First Multimedia Tool - Scrapbook :)

Versatility – what media does it allow me to use (text, images, video)?
This program allows me to use text, images and video. You can use your own images or images from the interent for a creative effect. But with Video, you can only use videos that has been uploaded to Youtube or photobucket. You can't unload to video straight from a camera.

Ease of use – how friendly is the user interface for the designers (you)? How easy is it to add components to my presentation? How friendly is the user interface for the user, can visitors find what they need on your presentation?
Scrapblog is really easy to use. They have good, creative designs or you can create one yourself. It's easy to add components to the presentation, via the bar on the left side on the page. Yes, vistors can find what they need to find on my presentation.

Collaboration – how well does the online tool allow me to work with my partner? Can we both work on the presentation at the same time?
It allows me to work well with my partner. We can both work on it at the same time. But we would prefer to work on it at the same time, incase we change something the other person has done and cant get it back.

Second Multimedia Tool - Notaland :)

Versatility – what media does it allow me to use (text, images, video)?
Notaland allows us to use text, images, video and music files. Unlike Scrapbook, it allows us to add images, video and music files straight from a file or camera, instead of having to go through youtube or photobucket. Although, we can do that if we want to when using notaland.

Ease of use – how friendly is the user interface for the designers (you)? How easy is it to add components to my presentation? How friendly is the user interface for the user, can visitors find what they need on your presentation?
It's really easy to use. We have to design the page ourselves, there isnt any templates to use. It's really easy to add components. All around the page (to edit page) there are tools to help edit and help you with your presentation.

Collaboration – how well does the online tool allow me to work with my partner? Can we both work on the presentation at the same time?
Yes, we can both work on it at the same time. We prefer to work on this seperatively, because we can both work on different pages and wont acidentally delete each others work, like we would using scrapbook.

multimedia presentation Tools

Today's lesson, I looked at two sites that Lani and I could do our presentations on. These two websites are Scrapbook and Nota. I think that Nota is better because it's simple to use. I've been experimenting, :)
its interesting,
Scrapbook is a good site as well, but I prefer to use nota :)
For Lani and my assignment, we are going to use NOTA :)
i checked with her already :)
but she is away this lesson ! :(

Researching Multimedia Presentation Tools

For this assignment, Lani and I are partners. We have to do 8 topics, which are listed below:

1. Computer Displays - LCD, CRT and plasma screens, pros and cons of each. Full high definition, high definition? (Blue)
2. Digital Televisions – Plasma, LCD, LED, OLED (Blue)
3. Hand held multimedia devices ( e.g. umpc, iPod, itouch, iriver, touch screen phones)
4. Piracy and Copyright (Purple)
5. Social Networking (Purple)
6. Secondary Storage: including (Yellow)
Hard Disk Drive
Blu-ray Disks
DVD (standards – single layer, dual layer,) & CD
USB memory storage
7. Sound Cards (Yellow)
8. Wifi (Green)

Lani is doing:
Numbers 3, 4, 7 and 8
Laura's Doing:
Numbers 1, 2, 5 and 6

to set out what we are doing with the topics above, we have to set it out a certain way (shown below):

What to Say

Some information to include in your project about each topic could include
1. What it is ? What do we use it for?
2. How is it a part of our multimedia world?
3. Are there different types? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each type?
4. A “simple” explanation of how it works.
5. A rough indication of the cost of the device (only where a device is being researched)
6. Future directions, what is waiting around the corner, what is the next “new” technology in this area?

We also have to answer certain questions which will be posted on another blog.

THE WORLD OF MULTIMEDIA

1. Where do you commonly use multimedia in your daily life, list as many examples as you can

I commonly use multimedia at school and at home. At school I use to internet mainly, but we are allowed to listen to our iPod's in IST and occasionly some other classes. At home I use the internet, iPod and phone. I use all these multimedia devices all the time at home, they are a way to entertain ourselves when we are bored.

2. What multimedia device or service would find it hardest to be without?

The device I would hardest to lvie without would be a phone (in general). Without a phone, it can effect our safety. This is because one of the reasons why I have a phone is because if I ever get into trouble or I'm lost and I don't know what to do, I can call my parents and they'll come and get me. And the same goes with a home phone. If I feel unsafe or some creepy person keeps coming around and asking to come in, I can call my parents to come home and then call the police. Without phones, we wouldn't be able to get out of trouble and our safety will be in danger.

3. Do you think the video on future directions (second video) will come true. Do you see advantages/disadvantages to the use of technology?
Yes I think the the video shows future directions which will come true. I have no doubt that they are already inventing things that will be similar to what was shown in the video. And advantage would be that it would help us to get more organized and a disadvantage would be that it might be to confusing to use and a lot of older people wouldnt be able to use it.

ASSESSMENT DETAILS entry 2

Today lesson, we were continuing on working on our assignment. But we had a slight problem. We couldnt use the cameras to finish filming to assessment. This was because Mr Lennon was absent from school and teh relief teacher we had, didn't have the key to the room which the cameras were in.
So Lani, Carla and myself working on the storyboard.

INTRODUCTION - Digital Video

Today we use Digital Video Camera's to capture those important memories and funny moments we wish to bring out during out 21st. But it was only a couple of years ago that we used Analog video to capture those moments.

Analog Video is signaled by analog and digital video is the opposite. It is signaled by digital rather then angalog.

Some advantages of have digital video, instead of Analog video are:

1. You keep track of your video information at home on the computer.

2. There are usually several outputs so you can connect more then one digital video.

Digital video has frame rate. It's a measurement of frequency which an image produces unique consecutive images.

All digital application use frame rates but it really depends on the resolution of the image/images and the individual elements of the image (pixels.)

Resolution is the individual elements (pixels) on screen. It very important because it determines how much data needs to be transmitted and stored, so that we can view the video we want to view.

RGB is a video colour sceme, which stands for Red, Green and Blue. These are the components of colour was see on our computer screens.

There are three standards use around the world, which are NTSC, PAL and SECAM. The main didderence between the three of these standards are they are used in different parts of the world. NTSC is used in USA, Canda, Japan, Korea and Mexico. PAL is used in Australia, China, Most of Europe and South America. And Secam is used in France, Middle East and much of Africa.

The Camera you would need to use a Capture card would be a anaglog video camera. You need this so it the video captured will become a digital video.

Assignment - Entry 5

This lesson, i finally finished my assignment. I had finished most of it at home on the weekend because i wasn't sure if i would get what i needed done.
At home i put all my layers together and made sure everything was in the right order. I then saved my final animation as a gif file. I saved the xcf. file again to make sure if something happened i could change it into another gif file and i saved the gf file as well.
When the gif. file had been saved, i played it back to see if i needed to change the speed of each frame/layer, which i did.
The first couple of slides, i tried at 200ms, which was still a little bit fast but was okay and the rest i out at 300ms. I played it all back and thought that it was still a bit fast. So the frames/layers that were 200ms went to 300ms and the frames/layers that were 300ms went to 400ms. When i had done that, i played it back and it was at the right speed, so i saved it.
My finished animation size is 6999KB and it's 109 frames/layes long. I'm not sure how long it goes for but it's over 5 seconds long.

Assignment - Entry Four

This lesson i again worked on my assignment. I was stopped a few times to listen to sir's instrutions but got quite a bit done. I decided that I would draw another green charater and animate him. But i thought i would animate him differently to how i animated my Leprechaun. The idea that i came up with was make the leprechaun start singing a cheer that we sing at school carnivals and get the other green character to repeat it, so it looks like they are doing repeative cheering!
Through the process of making my animation, i saved each frame/or layer as a xcf. file. It's short for eXperimental Computing Facility and is the image format used in gimp. I also aimed for getting to a 100 frames/layers or over and having my animation be 5 seconds long or longer.

Friday, March 27, 2009

Assignment - Entry Three!

When I first started my assignment, I knew what I had to do and what i had to produce by the due date. What i haven't mentioned in my first two entries is the creation process that i went through to figure out what i was going to do.
Sir said in class, that we could do what ever we wanted to do. Use what ever program, out of Gimp or Inkscape. On the board he showed us a couple of ways which we could do our animations, using Inkscape. My first thought was that everyone was going to use Inkscape. My second thought was that maybe using inkscape was going to be the easier and quickest option. So, i went onto Inkscape and started to have a play around with the drawing tools and made a picture (which i didn't save.)
I didn't really like using Inkscape because I, personally, found that it was a bit hard to use. So my third thought was that i should give GImp ago and I did. I found gimp much easier to use and understand.
My next thought was what should i do? I looked at the Coolock flag to see if it would give me any ideas. The main idea that i got was to animate a leprechaun to help promote my house colour. Why a leprechaun? Well Coolock house is the colour green and the emblem on the flag is a shamrock, which is irish. I thought of other irish figures and came up with the leprechaun and decided that, that's what i wanted to animate.

This lesson i continued working on my assignment and got a little bit further in the process.

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Assignment - Entry Two!

Today i continued working on my animation. I animated my Leprechaun and added little touches to it to make it look more like a leprechaun.
I've decided that i'm not going to do anything with the coolock flag or emblem. I thought it would be best just to stay with the leprechaun and animate him. Maybe even animate another green character and get the two characters to do a cheer, as a way of promoting my house colour.
I finished what I needed to have done and I saved my animation just as a gimp image. I'm not going to turn my animation into a GIF. until all my editing is done and i don't need to do anything else but change the amount of time a layer stays on the screen.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Assignment - Entry one!

Last lesson, I started working on my animation. The first thing I did, was draw a Leprechaun on Gimp. I choose the program Gimp because I find that out of the two (Gimp and Inkscape), Gimp is the program i find easiest to use. I saved a copy, so that if something was to happen to my animation, I could do it again, without having to re-draw my leprechaun. I copied my leprechaun, in three parts, and pasted the parts on another Gimp page. After I pasted them onto Gimp, I started to animate my Leprechaun. I moved the hand up and down first, a couple of times, and then I made him speck.
This is as far as I got this lesson. Next lesson, or the next time I work on my animation, I want to do something with the Coolock emblem and shamrock. When i finished for the lesson, i saved my animation so far, just as a gimp image.

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

ASSESSMENT - T1

At the beginning of todays lesson, we were given our assignments. The assignment allows us to make a animation using gimp or Inkskape. I have not yet decided what program I am going to use or how I am going to do my Animation.
I have thought about a couple of ideas.

1. Draw a Leprechaun
2. Animate the Coolock flag
3. Have a group of kids - stick figure - dance and cheer for Coolock

I have not yet decided out of these. I may do two of them together

Ginger Bread Man!

GINGER BREAD MAN!

8 of clubs.

For this task, I used paint, to make my own 8 of clubs, which is shown below. First, I made three circles and a triangle and grouped them together. I copyed it and pasted another club. I flipped one of them, so one of them was upside down, which is the same as on the real card.
I clicked on the add text button and presses the 8 key. I copyed that and placed one 8 in the top left corner and the other in the bottom right corner. I then placed the clubs, where they needed to go.

Windows Paint Tools

If you like doing art, but don't like cleaning up after yourself, then paint is the perfect thing for you. It's easy to use and isn't messy.
To use paint, and actually paint a picture, there are different tools that create different effects you might want to use. Down below is a picture of the tools used in paint

Free-Form Select: This is used to draw a shape over your picture and when she move the shape away, it reveals a cut underneath.
Select: This is used to do the same thing at Free-Form Select. It draws you a rectangle, and when you move the rectangle, it shows a cut underneath.
The Eraser: Is used to delete/rub things out!
Fill with Colour: This is used to fill the backround of the artwork with any colour, you like.
Pick Colour: This helps you choose a colour you want to copy.
Magnifier: This is used to make the picture bigger, so you can do more detail on the artwork.
Pencil: The Pencil is used to draw things on your artwork, choosing from the colours on the program.
Brush: The Brush is used to draw things on your artwork, but creates a paint brush effect.
Airbrush: The Airbrush is used to draw things on your artwork, but it creates an airbrush effect.
Text: Text is used to add text to your artwork, by using a text box.
Lines: There are two types of line, a straight and a scribbly. They're used to draw lines on your artworks.
Shapes: There are four shapes, Rectangle, Polygon, Ellipse and Rounded Rectangle. They are used for drawing shapes onto your artwork.

Digital Art. Is it Real?

Digital Art. Is it real? Is it a valid form of Art?
Compared to painting or drawing with a pen and paper, Digital art is different. The main difference is that you can use a computer to do it and with pen and paper you can't. The are different programs you can use to do a digital artwork, such as paint and websites. '
Some advantages of doing a digital art, is that you can undo any mistakes, by using the erasers or by pressing the undo buttons. You don't have to go to the tap to change the water to wash your paint brush, or get up and wash your paint brush everytime you change colour. You can also upload your artwork straight away, instead of waiting for the paint to dry, then scanning through to the computer and then uploading it to the internet.
You can also send it straight to friends or family.
An important, skill that people should possess when doing a digital art, is being able to read. Without being able to read, you won't be able to understand what is to be done, if your using a special program or just paint.
Another skill that people should possess when doing a digtial art, is being able to understand how to use different tools. Other then that, it should be easy enough or anyone to do.

Digital Media

There are all kinds of different Digital Media. If you asked someone what they thought Digital Media was, they would probably tell you a list of things, such as Apple iPods, Mp3 players, digital cameras, etc. But not one of these items listed is Digital media. What's on them, contains Digital Media. Digital Media consist of Mobile phones, Mp3's, digital pictures, digital videos, the internet, etc.

In computers, there are Bytes. They are small pieces of information, which the computer stores.

A sampling rate is the amount of samples taken at one times. An example of this is above.
